Mass General Brigham to remove Dana-Farber from Medicare Advantage network

The Medicare Advantage plan operated by Mass General Brigham's insurance division will remove the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute from its network starting October 1. As STAT News reports, this followed a split between Mass General Brigham and Dana-Farber.

What will change for patients

Patients with this insurance plan who receive treatment at Dana-Farber will have to either see another oncologist or change insurance plans after the network change. In particular, 88-year-old retired accountant Eldon Klingan has been treated by the same cancer specialist at Dana-Farber for more than two decades.

More current news is available on the UA.News Telegram channel Telegram.

According to the publication, Klingan trusts his doctor and believes she saved his life. Starting October 1, he will be forced to choose a new oncologist or different insurance because his plan will no longer include Dana-Farber in its network.

Number of plan members

Mass General Brigham's Medicare Advantage plan has about 20,500 members. At the same time, only a portion of them receive cancer care at Dana-Farber at any given time, STAT News notes.
