A Turkish surgeon performed 11 complex surgeries in Lviv and consulted with more than 40 patients
Renowned Turkish plastic and reconstructive surgeon Hakan Ağir has returned to Lviv on a humanitarian medical mission. The professor, who heads a department at the Acıbadem Clinic in Istanbul, joined the team of Ukrainian doctors at the Center for Pediatric Medicine.
During his visit, Agir served as a consultant in 11 complex surgeries performed by surgeons Andriy Kuzyk and Orest Leshnevsky. In addition, the professor examined and consulted with more than 40 patients, including children as young as one month old and adults from various regions of Ukraine.
The patients required treatment for a variety of complex conditions, including congenital cleft lip and palate, complications from cancer surgeries, vascular anomalies, trauma and burns, as well as soft tissue defects.
During the consultations, the doctors reviewed each patient’s previous treatment and determined the next steps for care.
Hakan Agir’s collaboration with Ukrainian medical professionals has been ongoing since 2020. For the past six years, he has been regularly visiting Ukraine to provide free care to patients in need of complex reconstructive surgeries.

In Lviv, doctors performed a rare combined surgical procedure. During a cesarean section, a 26-year-old woman simultaneously underwent removal of a recurrent ventral hernia, which could have caused serious complications after childbirth. As a result, a healthy baby boy was born, and the mother avoided another surgery and a lengthy recovery.
