PPL Net must submit audited reports to obtain spectrum — Ghana’s minister
PPL Net Ghana Limited, which owns the assets and manages the telecommunications brand AT Ghana, must submit overdue audited financial statements and meet other regulatory requirements before it can obtain additional radio frequency spectrum. Ghana’s Minister of Communications Sam George said this during the swearing-in of the company’s new board of directors, MyJoyOnline reports.
According to the minister, Ghana’s National Communications Authority cannot legally allocate spectrum to a company that has not submitted audited reports. George noted that PPL Net’s reporting is overdue by about one year.
Spectrum in three bands
George said that Ghana’s Cabinet had decided to make spectrum available to PPL Net. Following this, the minister issued a directive to the National Communications Authority to provide the company with spectrum in three different bands.
At the same time, he stressed that the decision can be implemented only after PPL Net meets the requirements stipulated by law. The company’s chief executive officer also said that the parent company has unresolved reporting issues.

Issues for the new board
In addition to reporting, the company must resolve information concerning its directors with the Registrar of Companies. According to George, the new board of directors must address corporate and regulatory issues so that AT Ghana and PPL Net can move to the next stage of operations.
The minister also said that he had issued a directive to GIFEIC to provide PPL Net with access to the GIFEIC core. This decision, he said, also depends on the company meeting outstanding requirements. Nearly two months have passed since the directive was issued, but the process has not advanced because PPL Net had no board of directors.
PPL Net’s chief executive officer described the formation of the new board as an opportunity to demonstrate the potential of Ghana’s telecommunications network. The company plans to expand its subscriber base while maintaining operational efficiency in order to strengthen its position in Ghana’s telecommunications market.
PPL Net Ghana Limited is wholly owned by Airtel Ghana, which is in turn wholly owned by the Government of Ghana.
