Cheese imports to Ukraine have risen by 6% since the beginning of the year

In January–April 2026, Ukraine imported 14,200 tons of cheese, a 6% increase compared to the same period last year. 

This is according to data from the State Customs Service. Total import costs for this product amounted to $87.8 million, showing a 6.4% increase compared to January–April 2025. The main suppliers of cheese to the Ukrainian market were Poland with a 43.8% share, Germany with 17.4%, and the Netherlands, which accounted for 7.6%.

At the same time, exports of Ukrainian cheese in the first four months of this year increased by 9.1% compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 4,800 tons. In monetary terms, exports generated $21.6 million, exceeding last year’s result by 4.9%. The largest volumes of domestic products were purchased by Moldova, which accounted for 36.4%, Kazakhstan with 25.8%, and Germany, which imported 11.9% of Ukrainian cheese, while no shipments to Russia or other sanctioned countries were recorded.

Prices for new potatoes from Ukrainian producers at the “Stolichny” market fell by 20%—from 100 to about 80 UAH per kilogram. Other vegetables from the new harvest are also becoming cheaper.

In March, global food prices rose by 2.4% compared to the revised February figure. This marks the second consecutive month of rising prices for staple food items.
