Nvidia to Return a Record $235 Billion to Shareholders Through a Stock Buyback Program – Financial Times

The American technology company Nvidia plans to allocate up to $235 billion toward a share buyback program to return a portion of the profits from the artificial intelligence boom to investors.

The company’s board of directors increased the buyback program by another $150 billion, marking the largest such decision in the history of the U.S. corporate sector and surpassing Apple’s 2024 record of $110 billion.

Taking into account unused funds, the total available limit has reached $235 billion, and the program is expected to be fully completed by the end of January 2028. Buying back its own shares from the market will reduce the number of shares outstanding, which will increase earnings per share and support the stock price.

In the first half of the current fiscal year, Nvidia’s free cash flow reached nearly $70 billion, of which $39.8 billion has already been spent to repurchase 203 million shares. Since ChatGPT’s launch in late 2022, the company’s stock has risen more than 13-fold, and following the announcement of the new buyback program, its price rose by another approximately 3%.
