Global overpayments soar amid Iran war's impact on oil prices

Since the Iran war began in late February, millions of people worldwide have significantly overpaid for gasoline, diesel, natural gas, and related products due to a sharp rise in global oil prices.

Brent crude oil prices surged from around $70 per barrel to $100–120 and beyond, representing an increase of 40–60% or more. This immediate jump reflected directly on retail fuel prices across many countries.

According to rough estimates, global consumers overpaid approximately $110 billion for oil, gasoline, and gas in just the first month of the conflict. For instance, with global oil consumption at 104 million barrels per month and an average price increase of $25 per barrel, this translates into an additional $75 billion in costs.

These developments have substantially affected economies worldwide, forcing governments and consumers to adapt to evolving energy market challenges.

It is expected that ongoing fluctuations related to the conflict zone and international responses will continue to shape oil and fuel prices globally.
