One of Europe's largest wind farms will be built in Ukraine at a cost of 1.2 billion euros
The DTEK energy holding company is launching a large-scale project to build a 650-megawatt wind farm in the Poltava region. The new facility will be one of the most powerful onshore wind farms in Europe and will consist of approximately 100 state-of-the-art turbines.
This was reported by DTEK’s press service. Investments in the construction are estimated at 1.2 billion euros, underscoring the facility’s strategic importance for the power grid.
The launch of the Poltava wind farm is intended to significantly strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience and compensate for the generation lost as a result of targeted Russian attacks on infrastructure. The company emphasizes that the development of renewable energy is a priority for the country’s recovery under the “build back greener” principle. The project will ensure a stable power supply for hundreds of thousands of households and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
In addition to strengthening energy independence, the construction of the wind farm will create new jobs and generate revenue for the local budget of Poltava Oblast. It is expected that the use of advanced technologies will allow the plant to operate with high efficiency even at low wind speeds. The implementation of the project in Poltava Oblast is part of Ukraine’s long-term strategy to transition to clean energy sources by 2050. The commissioning of the facility will be a significant step toward the decarbonization of the domestic industrial sector.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian group DTEK and the Danish company Vestas, a leading global manufacturer of wind turbines, have signed an agreement on the construction of the second phase of the Tiligul Wind Farm. The project is being implemented in the Mykolaiv region.
Shares of European wind energy companies fell on the stock market after Donald Trump withdrew support for new offshore wind energy projects in the United States.
