Reports from Walmart and other U.S. retailers will provide data on consumer spending
The largest U.S. retail chains will release their financial results this week, which may provide investors with additional insights into consumer spending, inflation, and the housing market. According to Associated Press data published by Fortune, Home Depot will report on Tuesday, Target and Lowe’s on Wednesday, and Walmart on Thursday.
Home Depot and Lowe’s results may provide insight into the housing market and whether Americans are spending more or less on home repairs and improvements. Target and Walmart’s results, as well as their forecasts, may reveal how households are planning their budgets and spending.
As Fortune notes, the inflation rate in the U.S. remains above 3%. The U.S. war with Iran has caused a spike in oil prices, which has affected the cost of gasoline. Higher prices for fuel, food, and goods that require transportation may force consumers to adjust their spending patterns or cut back on purchases.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Federal Reserve will also release the minutes from its July meeting. The document is expected to provide economists and Wall Street with more details on the central bank’s monetary policy.
In July, the Fed once again left the interest rate unchanged due to concerns about persistent inflation, the labor market situation, and the direction of the economy. Three officials did not support this decision, arguing in favor of a rate hike. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh described the discussion as a “good family argument.” Wall Street expects at least one rate hike by the end of 2026.
