Shangri-La Qaryat Al Beri in Abu Dhabi: canal, rooms and prices
The Shangri-La Qaryat Al Beri resort in Abu Dhabi, UAE, combines modern hotel services with traditional Arab elements in its design and hospitality. A distinctive feature of the complex is its private abra boats, which guests and visitors can use to travel along the canal within the resort, according to a review by The National.
The resort has welcomed guests since 2007. In addition to the hotel, the complex includes six villas and 161 apartments. Visitors are offered dates and Arabic gahwa coffee in the lobby. The interior features mashrabiya, Arab decorative motifs and dark wood, while rotary telephones are placed near the elevators.
Rooms and views
The publication described a 135-square-metre Specialty suite. It has a kitchen, dining area, living room, a space with a desk, bedroom, dressing room and bathroom with separate shower and bathtub. The balcony runs along the suite and overlooks the canal and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
The suite is equipped with an espresso machine and two televisions, from which guests can log into their Netflix accounts. However, there are no standard power outlets near the bed for charging a phone.

Restaurants, pool and spa
The complex's main restaurant is Sofra Bld, which opens onto an infinity pool. It hosts themed dinners, including Arabesque Night with Middle Eastern buffet dishes. Such a dinner costs 238 dirhams per person, with drinks charged separately.
Other resort restaurants include Shang Palace with Chinese cuisine and Bord Eau by Nicolas Isnard, which was closed for the summer and was due to reopen in September. The Chi spa offers treatments ranging from a 30-minute express scrub for 350 dirhams to the 240-minute Arabian Desert Escape programme for 995 dirhams.
The resort is located about a 20-minute drive from central Abu Dhabi and a little more than an hour from Downtown Dubai. A stay in a Specialty suite costs 1,998 dirhams per night for two people, excluding breakfast, taxes and fees. Check-in is available from 14:00, and check-out is by 12:00. The National notes that the review was conducted at the hotel's invitation.
