Fedorov has declined other government posts, with the exception of the Ministry of Defense — UP
Mykhailo Fedorov has turned down the government positions offered to him and is willing to continue working only as defense minister. “Ukrainska Pravda” reported this, citing sources in political circles.
According to the publication, during a conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Fedorov was offered the opportunity to remain in government in a position related to technology. One option was the post of Deputy Prime Minister for Technology. At the same time, according to sources, he sees no point in moving to another position without real authority and does not understand the reasons for his dismissal as Minister of Defense.
UP’s sources claim that Fedorov considers the position of Defense Minister to be the only one from which he can implement the planned changes and the technological rearmament of the military. In his view, the Ministry of Defense is where the necessary managerial authority and tools for this are concentrated.
Also, according to sources, Fedorov noted that following Mykhailo Drapaty’s appointment, his team could have immediately begun working together. Instead, the new head of the Ministry of Defense will need time to build a team and familiarize himself with the ministry’s processes.
From July 16 to 21, protests took place in Kyiv and other cities demanding that Fedorov be reinstated as defense minister and that Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi be dismissed. After six days of protests, Zelenskyy announced Syrskyy’s dismissal and named Mykhailo Drapaty as the new Commander-in-Chief.
