Three new afternoon teas in Dubai and Abu Dhabi — The National

Venues in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, UAE, launched three new afternoon tea formats this September. The offerings combine traditional scones, sandwiches and pastries with modern snacks, while one format has been supplemented with stories about the history of the tea tradition, The National reports.

The Gallery at The Lana hotel in Dubai has launched the Royal Afternoon Tea. The menu includes coronation chicken sandwiches on curry bread, smoked Scottish salmon, asparagus and dill, as well as a variation on the cucumber sandwich with mint cream cheese and yuzu caviar.

The history of the tradition at The Lana

The sweet part of the menu at The Lana includes a Victoria cake, a reimagined Bakewell tart with lemon frangipane and jam, a chocolate truffle with salted caramel and pecan praline, and a rose and raspberry religieuse pastry. Guests will be offered story cards and service from a waiter devoted to the origins of the afternoon tea tradition.

In particular, during the service, guests will hear about Catherine of Braganza, who popularized tea drinking among the English aristocracy after marrying King Charles II in 1662, and Anna Russell, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, who is associated with establishing the afternoon tea tradition in the 1840s. Tea at The Lana is available daily from 12:00 to 18:00, starting at Dh400 per person.

Scones, tacos and Italian pastries

The Hawksbill restaurant at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi offers a more relaxed format. In addition to freshly baked scones and delicate pastries, the set includes sliders, tacos, smoked salmon blinis and seafood snacks. Drinks to choose from include tea, coffee, juice or a soft drink. The offer is available Monday through Thursday, from 13:00 to 16:00, starting at Dh120 per person.

At Ginori Terrace at The St Regis Downtown Dubai, afternoon tea begins with homemade mango ice cream. Savoury dishes include tramezzini with wild smoked salmon and spinach, a prawn cocktail tart, and a pumpkin and ricotta tart. Desserts include a chocolate and hazelnut macaron, a fig tartlet, raspberry cheesecake and scones with Cornish cream. The service concludes with cannoncini, an Italian puff pastry with vanilla cream, prepared and served at the table. The format is available daily from 14:00 to 18:00, starting at Dh250 per person.
