Alisa Vainio wins Finnish marathon championship in Jyväskylä
Alisa Vainio won the women’s race at the Finnish Marathon Championships in Jyväskylä. She covered the distance in 2 hours 27 minutes 45 seconds.
Preparation for the Berlin Marathon
For Vainio, this race was a preparatory event ahead of the Berlin Marathon, scheduled for September 27. Even before the competition, it was known that the athlete did not intend to run at full strength. Her coach, Jarmo Viskari, said that the race was meant to be a long training session planned for the end of the week after Vainio’s participation in the Berlin event was confirmed.

Women’s race results
Vainio’s result was more than seven minutes slower than her Finnish record of 2:20:39. Anni Kuosmanen finished second with a time of 2:34:58, YLE News reports. Vainio represents the Lappeenrannan Urheilu-Miehet club, while Kuosmanen represents Kuopion Reipas.
Men’s marathon
Jarkko Järvenpää became Finland’s champion in the men’s marathon with a time of 2:20:25. William Mäkinen finished second in 2:25:53, while Aki Nummela was third with a result of 2:27:22.
