AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim, after a 3-0 Serie A victory over Lecce in Milan, Italy, said he would learn from tactical mistakes made during his time at Manchester United. According to Channel NewsAsia, the September 20 victory ended the Italian club's three-match winless run.
More freedom on the pitch
Amorim told DAZN that Milan's positional structure had overly restricted the players in previous matches. Therefore, against Lecce, he allowed the players to act more freely and, according to the coach, the team played better.
The coach added that the feeling from the recent matches reminded him of his time at Manchester United. He noted that he could not make the same mistake and that the team needed to adapt if its players did not have the necessary attributes for a particular system.

Experience at Manchester United
At Manchester United, the 41-year-old Amorim used a three-defender formation in 45 of 47 Premier League matches. During that time, the team recorded 15 victories. In the 2024–25 season, the club finished 15th — the worst result in its history.
Toward the end of his time at the English club, Amorim briefly switched to a four-defender formation, but he was dismissed in January. The coach stressed that Milan could use a three-defender setup again, but it was important to have different options of play.
