Asante Kotoko to play Heart of Lions in Ghana Premier League
Ghanaian football club Asante Kotoko will host Heart of Lions on September 13 in a second-round match of the new Ghana Premier League season. The match will take place at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and will kick off at 15:00 GMT.
As MyJoyOnline reports, this will be Kotoko’s first home match of the new season following the club’s recent victory in the Democracy Cup. In the opening round, the team drew 1-1 with league debutants Debibi United. Heart of Lions also shared the points with Aduana Stars in their first match of the season.
Coach’s appeal to supporters
Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler urged supporters to attend the match in large numbers. According to him, the Democracy Cup victory and the team’s return to winning ways could draw fans back to the stadium. Tinkler also expressed hope that the match against what he considers a very difficult opponent would be played in front of full stands.

Head-to-head statistics
The clash with Heart of Lions has traditionally been difficult for the Kumasi team. In 12 matches between the clubs since 2012, Kotoko have recorded only two victories, while Lions have won six times. Another four meetings ended in draws.
Tinkler noted that the teams had already played each other in a pre-season match in Accra. He described the opponent as a well-structured, organized and hard-working team and stressed that his players must match them in these aspects and take the field confident in their own abilities.
