Borussia Mönchengladbach dismisses coach Eugen Polanski

In Germany, football club Borussia Mönchengladbach has dismissed head coach Eugen Polanski after three defeats in the first three matches of the Bundesliga season. Channel NewsAsia reports, citing a statement from Borussia.

Three defeats at the start

The club announced Polanski's dismissal on September 13, the day after the team lost 0-5 to Freiburg. The result left the Mönchengladbach club at the bottom of the standings.

In the first match of the season, Borussia lost 0-3 to RB Leipzig. A week later, the team lost 3-4 to Bundesliga newcomer Elversberg after conceding three goals in the second half.

Interim coach

The club's sporting director, Rouven Schröder, said that despite good pre-season preparations and some positive signs, the team did not achieve the results expected in the Bundesliga. According to him, the recent performances prompted the decision to change the coach immediately.

Polanski, who had previously played for Borussia Mönchengladbach's youth and first teams for a long time, took charge of the club in September 2025. Former Mainz 05 coach Jan-Moritz Lichte will serve as interim head coach.
