Eight-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt humorously reacted in Budapest to headlines claiming that a humanoid robot in China had covered 100 metres faster than his world record. The Jamaican sprinter said the news made him smile, TimesLIVE reports.
The robot’s 100-metre result
The Tiangong Ultra robot won the 100-metre final at the second World Humanoid Robot Games in China, recording a time of 8.64 seconds. This is almost a second faster than Bolt’s 9.58 seconds, the world record he set in 2009.
According to Bolt, this result indicates the direction in which modern technology is developing. He learned about it after media headlines such as “Robot beats Bolt” appeared.

Meeting with journalists
The 40-year-old Bolt spoke with journalists on the final day of the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest. He spoke about his place in sports history and noted that he wanted not only to dominate athletics, but also to be among the athletes remembered alongside figures such as Muhammad Ali.
Bolt also jokingly denied journalists’ claims last year that he was allegedly out of shape. The sprinter said that he still trains every day. He wanted to end the conversation sooner in order to follow the Manchester derby between Manchester United and Manchester City, as he has long been a United supporter.
Bolt added that he does not know why his name was linked to the amateur club Wythenshawe Vets FC from south Manchester. His agent, Ricky Simms, suggested that the club may have wanted to retain the option of inviting Bolt if he was in Manchester and wanted to play.
