2026 World Cup: Belgium Celebrated Their Rout of the U.S. with the Trump Dance
The Belgian national team confidently defeated the United States 4–1 in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. After scoring their fourth goal, the Belgian players reenacted U.S. President Donald Trump’s famous dance, which became popular after his election victory.
After Romelu Lukaku’s goal, the players gathered near the corner flag and performed the distinctive moves that Donald Trump often demonstrates while the song “YMCA” by the Village People plays at his public events.
Following the U.S. presidential election in November 2024, athletes in various sports began imitating this dance to celebrate their victories.
There was a stir surrounding the U.S. national team before the game. FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee suspended the ban on one of the American team’s leaders, Folarin Balogun, which sparked a wave of criticism. The situation drew even more attention after Donald Trump stated that he had personally called FIFA President Gianni Infantino regarding this matter.
The 2026 World Cup is being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. For the first time in the tournament’s history, 48 national teams are participating, and the final is scheduled for July 19.
Morocco became another quarterfinalist after defeating Canada.
In the second half, Azzedine Ounahi opened the scoring with a precise shot into the corner of the net following a set piece.
After conceding the goal, the Canadians were unable to create any dangerous chances, while the Moroccans capitalized on another counterattack. Unai scored his second goal, finding the top corner of the net. Later, Soufiane Rahimi had a chance to make it a rout, but his long-range shot hit the crossbar.
The French national team advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Paraguay in a tense match.
The decisive moment came in the 67th minute, when, after a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty for a foul on Désiré Doué. Kylian Mbappé confidently converted the penalty kick, scoring the only goal of the match.
The first quarterfinal match of the 2026 World Cup will take place on July 9 at 11:00 p.m. Kyiv time, when the national teams of France and Morocco will face off.
