Ukraine is at the bottom of the UEFA rankings following the start of the European club competitions
Ukrainian clubs have gotten off to a poor start in the 2026/2027 European club competition season. After eight matches, they have yet to secure a single victory, which has left Ukraine in last place among all UEFA member associations. There are still many matches ahead, but only two teams will now have the chance to turn things around.
The start of the new European club season has been one of the worst for Ukrainian soccer in recent years. After eight qualifying matches, Ukraine’s representatives have not won a single game. Currently, Ukrainian clubs have five draws and three losses to their credit. This result has left Ukraine in last place among all UEFA associations that have already begun competing in European club competitions.
Montenegro remains the only other country with the same record of no wins. At the same time, Montenegrin clubs have lost all ten of their matches, while Ukrainian clubs have at least drawn five times. Despite this, both associations remain winless so far. Ukraine suffered its biggest setbacks right at the start of the season. Polissya and LNZ failed to get past their opponents and were eliminated from European competition after the first qualifying rounds.
Now, only two clubs represent Ukraine in European tournaments. Shakhtar has already secured its spot in the Champions League group stage. The team is now awaiting the tournament draw, after which it will be known who the Donetsk side will face in the group stage.
Dynamo, on the other hand, will continue its campaign in the Conference League following a disappointing performance in the Europa League qualifiers. It is the Kyiv team that now has a chance not only to advance to the main round of the tournament but also to bring Ukraine its first victory in the new European cup season. In the third qualifying round of the Conference League, Dynamo will face Azerbaijan’s Qarabağ. The matches are scheduled for August 6 and 13.
Most of the European club season still lies ahead, so Ukrainian clubs have the opportunity to improve their records. However, after such a start, every subsequent victory will be particularly important not only for the teams but also for Ukraine’s position in the UEFA coefficient rankings.
