Daniil Medvedev advances to the third round of the US Open
Tennis player Daniil Medvedev defeated American Sebastian Gorzny 6:1, 6:3, 7:5 in the second round of the US Open and advanced to the next round of the tournament. The match took place at Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York.
Medvedev's advantage
The 2021 US Open champion hit 14 aces. He won the first set in 21 minutes, producing 10 winners, while Gorzny had two. The American, who received a wildcard, was playing only his second match in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament.
According to Cyprus Mail, Medvedev said after the match that he was pleased with his level of play. “Being on the court, I was happy with my level. I love this court and I love you guys,” he said.

Birds on the net
In the middle of the second set, two birds appeared on the net during a rally. The umpire ordered the point to be replayed. Medvedev noted that he saw the birds immediately and expected the rally to be stopped at once, but the players continued playing for about 45 seconds before the umpire intervened.
In the third set, Gorzny improved his play and saved four break points in the ninth game. However, Medvedev broke serve in the 11th game and ended the match with a serve that his opponent could not return. In the third round, he will face Spain's Jaume Munar or France's Arthur Rinderknech.
