Dowman scores twice in Arsenal’s win over Ipswich
In Ghana, Arsenal defeated Ipswich Town 4:2 in the third round of the League Cup (Carabao Cup). Sixteen-year-old Max Dowman scored two goals for the London team.
Dowman’s brace
Dowman opened the scoring in the seventh minute. He won the ball in the centre of the pitch, played a one-two with Eberechi Eze, beat two defenders and overcame the goalkeeper. Noni Madueke scored Arsenal’s second goal after a pass from Mikel Merino, who flicked the ball forward.
After the break, Dowman received a pass from Martin Zubimendi and struck into the far bottom corner. Later, Merino scored Arsenal’s fourth goal, hitting the inside of the post.

Ipswich goals
Ipswich responded with goals from Anis Mehmeti and Chuba Akpom. Mehmeti scored after a pass from Jack Clarke, while Akpom scored after turning and shooting.
Both teams made significant changes to their starting line-ups compared with their Premier League matches at the weekend — 19 changes in total. Dowman and 17-year-old centre-back Marley Salmon made their first starts of the season. According to MyJoyOnline, Dowman became the second 16-year-old player for a Premier League team to score two goals in one match in any competition. The first was Wayne Rooney, who scored twice for Everton in a League Cup match against Wrexham in 2002.
