ESPN has released its symbolic "Disappointments" All-Tournament Team for the 2026 World Cup

The sports publication ESPN has unveiled an all-star team of soccer players who, in the editors’ opinion, were the biggest disappointments at the 2026 World Cup.

The team includes goalkeeper Fernando Muslera (Uruguay), defenders Nico O’Riley (England), Virgil van Dijk (Netherlands), Mark Ghehi (England), and Joshua Kimmich (Germany).

The midfield of the symbolic team features Scott McTominay (Scotland), Federico Valverde (Uruguay), Christian Pulisic (United States), Bruno Fernandes (Portugal), and Florian Wirtz (Germany).

The only forward on the list is Brazilian Neymar.

ESPN noted that all the players included in the “team of disappointments” failed to demonstrate the level of play that was expected of them before the start of the World Cup.

As a reminder, the Spanish national team returned home with the World Cup trophy after defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final match of the 2026 World Cup. Team captain Rodri personally carried the trophy off the plane upon arrival in the capital.

Sixty-four national teams will participate in the 2030 World Cup. That’s 16 more teams than in the 2026 tournament, which was the first World Cup in history to feature 48 participants.

Ukrainian Yanchuk received an individual award in the Nations League.
