FIFA has increased the number of teams in the World Cup to 64

Sixty-four national teams will participate in the 2030 FIFA World Cup. That is 16 more teams than in the 2026 tournament, which was the first World Cup in history to feature 48 participants.

Alejandro Domínguez, president of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), announced the increase in the number of participating teams to 64.

He also confirmed that the 2030 World Cup will be held in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

Meanwhile, the first three matches of the tournament, commemorating the centennial of the first World Cup, will be played in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.

Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup.
