FIDE has suspended the membership of the Russian Chess Federation

The Council of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) has decided to temporarily suspend the membership of the Russian Chess Federation due to its failure to comply with a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

At the same time, the federation emphasized that this decision will not affect the participation of Russian chess players in international tournaments—they will still be able to compete.

FIDE emphasized that the organization adheres to the principles of good governance, compliance with judicial decisions, and the protection of the interests of the global chess community.

The FIDE Council also decided to submit the issue of confirming sanctions in accordance with CAS rulings and the decisions of the federation’s governing bodies for consideration at the next General Assembly.

This was reported by FIDE.

Earlier, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) officially approved the rules for the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in international adult tournaments. The decision was made after consultations with the International Olympic Committee and does not allow Russian chess players to compete under their own flag.

We previously reported that FIDE may restore the right of Russian chess players to compete under their national symbols.

FIDE will review Kramnik’s remarks regarding the death of Narodytsky.

As a reminder, Latvia has banned the president of the International Chess Federation from entering the country.

FIDE has also suspended American chess player Christopher Yu from competition for one year due to aggressive behavior.
