French TV host suspended for criticizing soccer player at the 2026 World Cup

The French television channel L'Equipe has suspended TV host France Pierron from working during the 2026 World Cup following her criticism of Belgian national team winger Jérémie Doku.

This was reported by journalist Clément Garin.

The scandal stemmed from Pierron’s comments regarding Doku’s departure from the national team’s training camp due to the birth of his child in England. The host criticized the player, but her stance sparked a wave of outrage among viewers and the channel’s management.

L'Equipe stated that the journalist’s words were her personal opinion and did not reflect the broadcaster’s values. The channel also apologized to Jérémy Doku and the tournament’s audience.

As a reminder, the 2026 World Cup group stage match between France and Iraq was in danger of being canceled due to adverse weather conditions in Philadelphia.

At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the second round of group stage matches took place.
