Hamilton says Sydney Swans grew closer after scandal
In Australia, Cynthia Hamilton, a player for the Sydney Swans women’s Australian rules football team, said the club’s men’s and women’s squads became closer after the scandal surrounding the Pullman Hotel. ABC News Australia reports this.
Joint team sessions
According to Hamilton, players from both teams hold morning breathing-practice sessions together. She named men’s team footballer Errol Gulden as one of the initiators of these meetings, saying he sent messages inviting representatives of both squads.
Hamilton said these sessions and other joint activities brought the teams closer together. She also noted that the men’s team actively helped unite the two groups and described the club’s response to the events as beautiful in its own way.

Fan support and matches
After the scandal, 16,672 spectators attended the Swans women’s team match against Essendon at the SCG. This was more than twice the previous attendance record for the club’s home AFLW match. The men’s team match against North Melbourne at the SCG drew 30,058 fans, the club’s lowest figure at the venue this season.
Five Swans footballers are serving club-imposed suspensions and will not play for the rest of the season: Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, Nick Blakey, James Jordon and Riley Bice. At the same time, the men’s team defeated reigning champion Brisbane by 53 points in the qualifying final in front of 37,261 spectators.
Sydney’s women’s team is in fifth place after its first loss of the season, by 27 points to the Western Bulldogs. In Sunday’s derby, it will play GWS Giants at Henson Park. In the four previous AFLW derbies, both teams have recorded two wins each.
