High airfares may prevent Adelaide Crows fans from travelling to semifinal in Australia
In Australia, some fans of the Adelaide Crows may be unable to travel to Brisbane for the AFL semifinal due to a sharp rise in airfare prices. On Saturday evening, the team will play reigning league champions Brisbane Lions at The Gabba stadium. This was reported by ABC News Australia.
Match tickets went on sale on Monday. Some club supporters said that before ticket sales for club members began, a return flight between Adelaide and Brisbane cost about 500 Australian dollars, but before sales started, the price nearly doubled to around 1,000 dollars.
According to ABC, the cost of a return flight became more than ten times higher than the price of an admission ticket to the game. The Crows advanced to this match after defeating the Western Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.
Flight prices
As of midday Monday, the cheapest one-way tickets to Brisbane offered by major airlines cost more than 500 Australian dollars. A Virgin Australia Lite fare without checked baggage, with a stopover in Sydney, was offered for 578.11 dollars, while a Jetstar Starter fare cost 504 dollars.

Return flights to Adelaide also cost more than 500 dollars: a direct Jetstar flight started from 643 dollars, while a Virgin Australia flight with a stopover in Melbourne started from 565 dollars.
Fans change plans
Janice Regan, president of the Eyre Peninsula Crows supporters group, said a travel agency told her that a flight via Singapore could cost nearly the same as the route from Adelaide to Brisbane. According to her, prices effectively tripled after the final whistle in the Crows' match against the Western Bulldogs.
Regan found a cheaper option, but it will require her to fly to Brisbane on Tuesday and return only the following Wednesday. She noted that fans have to compare airfare costs with additional accommodation expenses. Crows forward Darcy Fogarty expressed hope that the team's supporters would still be able to attend the game.
