The ISU is reinstating Russian and Belarusian athletes under neutral status
The International Skating Union (ISU) has officially announced that athletes from Russia and Belarus will be allowed to participate in international competitions during the 2026–2027 season.
The athletes will be able to compete exclusively under neutral status, as stated in a notice on the organization’s website.
Under the new rules, the use of national symbols is prohibited during performances on the ice.
Speed skaters and figure skaters will not be allowed to display national flags, play national anthems, or wear uniforms featuring national colors.
The ISU’s official release states that admission is possible only if there is “no evidence of a violation of neutral status.”
Although the organization did not provide detailed clarification of this wording, it refers to a strict ban on public support for Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Any ties between athletes and Russian military structures are also prohibited.
This was reported on the ISU’s official website.
