The talented winger decided to play for the Ukrainian national team and turn down the United States
Talented 18-year-old winger Vitalii Hlyut has officially joined the Ukrainian U-19 national team to bolster the squad for the upcoming U-19 European Championship.
The soccer player deliberately turned down the opportunity to play for the U.S. national team, even though he had previously attended training camps with the American squad.
The decision to switch allegiances was a well-considered one, as the young midfielder had long aspired to represent the “blue and yellow” colors.
He emphasized that his patriotic feelings and connection to his homeland were the decisive factors in his choice.
Vitalii Hlyut commented on his decision to play for the national team: “Yes, I’ve already been to a couple of training camps with the United States, but Ukraine was always in my heart. This is where I was born; this is my country. I want to play for it, and I’m very happy to have this opportunity.”
The player also noted significant differences in the preparation and mentality of different teams, highlighting the special spirit of the Ukrainian national team.
In his view, it is precisely this internal motivation and shared goal that will help the team achieve a respectable result at the continental championship.
“I think all national teams have different tactics and styles of play, but Ukraine—that’s ours. We have that fire, that pain, and we know how we want to play at the Euros. And I feel much better here because, as I said, Ukraine is my heart,” the player admitted.
