Cameroon won the Women's African Cup of Nations for the first time
Cameroon’s women’s national soccer team won the African Nations Cup for the first time, defeating Malawi 3–0 in the final in Rabat. Marie Nga scored twice in the first half, and Naomi Eto added another goal, according to Channel NewsAsia, citing Reuters.
Cameroon opened the scoring in the 20th minute: Nga was the quickest to react after the ball rebounded in the penalty area. In the 30th minute, Eto doubled the team’s lead. In the third minute of first-half stoppage time, Nga completed her brace after a pass from Eto.

Prior to this, Cameroon had lost three times in the finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The Malawi national team was making its debut at the continental championship and reached the final. The team is ranked 153rd in the world and 32nd among African national teams.
Both finalists have already secured spots in the Women’s World Cup, which will take place next year in Brazil. Morocco and Algeria also qualified for the tournament; the Algerian women won bronze medals after defeating their opponents in a penalty shootout in the third-place match. Cameroon became the fourth different champion of the competition, which has been held since 1998.
