Sydney Swans captain Callum Mills suffered a serious knee injury in the AFL qualifying final against the Brisbane Lions in Sydney. Mills' teammate Tom Papley said he was devastated by the captain's injury. According to him, Mills has been important to the club in recent weeks, takes responsibility for the team and deserves a premiership.
The injury overshadowed Sydney's 53-point victory over reigning champion Brisbane. Mills has played 197 matches in his career, missed the 2024 grand final in which the Swans were defeated, and has also had several injuries throughout his career.

Path to the preliminary final
Sydney defeated Brisbane despite the absence of five players serving club-imposed suspensions. Logan McDonald kicked six goals, while Charlie Curnow and Papley kicked five each. Errol Gulden directed play in midfield, while Harry Cunningham led the defensive efforts.
In the preliminary final, the Swans will play at their home venue, the SCG, against either Fremantle or Geelong. Coach Dean Cox said forward Joel Amartey, who is recovering from an Achilles tendon injury, and winger Justin McInerney, following a hamstring injury, are expected to be available for the match.
