Former Japanese tennis player Rika Hiraki has become the subject of a criminal investigation. Police suspect the athlete of involvement in a fraud that, according to the investigation, was committed four years ago. She could face a prison sentence.
Japanese police suspect Hiraki of involvement in a fraud committed four years ago. At that time, a woman was defrauded of 300,000 yen (about $1,900). She transferred the funds to the tennis player’s bank account.
Footage from an ATM surveillance camera showed that 54-year-old Hiraki withdrew the funds transferred by the victim on the same day. Police are also investigating reports from other people who claim to have transferred money to the same account.
Hiraki’s highest ranking in the world singles rankings was 72nd, and 26th in doubles.
