Real Madrid win EuroLeague Super Cup in Abu Dhabi — The National
Spanish basketball club Real Madrid defeated Greece’s Olympiacos 93-89 in the final of the first EuroLeague Super Cup, held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The match took place at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island before a capacity crowd. Former Madrid footballers Gareth Bale and Marcelo were among the spectators.
Madrid side take the lead in the opening quarter
Real finished the first quarter with a 24-15 advantage. Olympiacos put pressure on their opponents throughout the game, particularly in the third quarter, but the Madrid team held on to their lead and won the trophy.
Walter Tavares was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. In the final, he scored six points and collected seven rebounds. Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot recorded 12 points, four rebounds and two assists. Facundo Campazzo scored seven points, made five rebounds and provided nine assists.

Real head coach Pedro Martinez noted the team’s mental resilience after the game. According to him, his players showed character in the final quarter, although the team still needs to improve its coordination during the preseason period.
Revenge for the EuroLeague final
The victory was Real’s revenge for their defeat by Olympiacos in the 2025/26 EuroLeague season final, held in Athens in May. As The National reports, Campazzo said the team were pleased to start the season with a trophy and intended to continue improving.
In the third-place match, Turkey’s Fenerbahce defeated Dubai Basketball 85-77. The winners’ top scorer was Talen Horton-Tucker, who recorded 23 points and three rebounds.
