Gold Coast thrash Essendon, Richmond defeat GWS — ABC News Australia
In Australia, the Gold Coast Suns defeated the Essendon Bombers by 41 points in an AFLW match, while the Richmond Tigers held on for a 68:61 win over the GWS Giants in Canberra. ABC News Australia reported the match results.
Gold Coast claim third straight win
Gold Coast won 7.9 (51) to 1.4 (10) at Windy Hill. It was the team's third consecutive victory, leaving it with a 4-2 record after six matches and lifting it to fifth place. The Suns are four points behind reigning champions North Melbourne, who are in second position.
In windy conditions, Gold Coast's defence prevented their opponents from scoring until late in the second quarter. The visitors controlled territory and kicked three goals through three players aged under 21. The Suns held a 20-point lead at half-time.
Forward Ann Hatchard and midfielder Charlie Rowbottom kicked goals in the second half. Essendon's only goal, late in the third quarter, was scored by Emily Gough. Hatchard and Havana Harris finished with two goals each, while Rowbottom had 36 disposals and one goal. Defender Niamh McLaughlin recorded 33 disposals and gained 506 metres. Essendon lost all six matches of the season despite Maddy Prespakis recording 38 disposals.

Richmond hold their lead in Canberra
Richmond defeated GWS 9.14 (68) to 10.1 (61) at Manuka Oval. The Tigers led by 16 points after the first quarter, then kicked five goals in 12 minutes in the second and went into the break leading 55:18.
After the break, the Giants changed the course of the game by kicking six goals, two of them scored by Georgia Garnett. Richmond's lead was reduced to eight points before the final quarter. The visitors missed several chances, but their defence withstood the opponents' final surge. Richmond also have a 4-2 record, while GWS are 1-5.
Gabby Seymour kicked a personal-best three goals for Richmond and made 16 hit-outs, while Olivia Wolmarans also scored three goals. For GWS, Garnett finished with three goals, Rebecca Beeson had two goals and 23 disposals, and Alice Parker recorded 27 disposals.
