Ukrainian tennis players Marta Kostyuk and Angelina Kalinina have learned who their opponents will be in the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid.
Only two of the seven Ukrainian players have advanced to this stage. Kostyuk confidently defeated Yulia Putintseva (6-1, 6-3) in the second round, while Kalinina defeated world No. 24 Maria Bouzkova in two sets.
In the next round, Kalinina will face four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka, who is ranked 15th in the WTA rankings and is the 14th seed. This will be their second head-to-head match—the Japanese player won in 2015.
Kostyuk’s opponent will be world No. 5 Jessica Pegula. The players have faced each other six times—the American leads 4-2. However, in 2026, Kostyuk defeated Pegula in the semifinals of the Brisbane tournament.
Kalinin’s match is scheduled for April 25 (no earlier than 10:30 p.m.), while Kostyuk will take the court on April 26.
Kostiuk won the tournament in Rouen, defeating Podrez in the final.
Fedorchuk called Rebrov a "little Napoleon" and criticized the national team.
