Messi became the second billionaire soccer player after Ronaldo
Argentine forward Lionel Messi has become the second soccer player in history to have a net worth exceeding $1 billion. His net worth has grown following his move to the American club Inter Miami CF, as well as thanks to new endorsement deals and business investments.
This was reported by Bloomberg.
According to sources, the 38-year-old Messi has earned over $700 million in salary and bonuses since 2007, and when sponsorship deals and investments are factored in, his net worth has surpassed $1 billion.
His salary with his current team, Inter Miami—which ranges from $70 million to $80 million per year—as well as revenue-sharing agreements from television rights, real estate, and a stake in an Argentine restaurant chain have helped him achieve billionaire status.
The deal with Inter Miami also included innovative benefits for Messi, notably an equity option that gives him the right to acquire a stake in the club, co-owned by former England star David Beckham.
He is also actively developing business ventures outside of soccer. In 2024, Messi launched the sports drink Más+ by Messi in partnership with Mark Anthony International SRL, and also became an investor in the Argentine restaurant chain El Club de la Milanesa.
Thus, Messi joined Cristiano Ronaldo, who had previously become the first soccer billionaire after signing a contract with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr.
Also, according to Sportico’s estimates, Inter Miami’s valuation rose to $1.45 billion following Messi’s arrival, making the club the most valuable soccer team in the U.S.
Lionel Messihas chosen his successor in soccer.
