Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk advanced to the semifinals of the French Open after defeating her compatriot Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals.
In the match between the two strongest Ukrainian tennis players, Kostyuk, who is ranked 15th in the WTA rankings, defeated the world’s seventh-ranked Svitolina with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
The match lasted 1 hour and 51 minutes. After a strong start, Kostyuk lost the second set, but in the decisive set, she regained the initiative and secured the victory.
Thanks to this success, Marta Kostyuk advanced to the Roland Garros semifinals for the first time in her career.
In the battle for a spot in the final, the Ukrainian will face “neutral” player Mirra Andreeva, who is ranked eighth in the world.
For Elina Svitolina, this was already her sixth Roland Garros quarterfinal of her career. She previously reached this stage of the tournament in 2015, 2017, 2020, 2023, and 2025.
For Kostyuk, however, her best result at the clay-court Grand Slam tournament in Paris prior to this was reaching the fourth round in 2021.
The 2026 Roland Garros tournament continues in Paris through June 7.

Ukraine’s No. 2 player extended her winning streak on clay courts to 16 consecutive matches.
