Lyudmila Luzan was named Ukraine's Athlete of the Month for the fourth time

The Expert Commission of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine named Lyudmyla Luzan the best athlete of August. The Ukrainian rower triumphed at the World Championships.

This is Luzan’s fourth such award from the NOC.

Triumph at the World Championships in Poznań

This recognition was based on the athlete’s outstanding results at the World Canoe and Kayak Championships, held in Poznań, Poland. There, Lyudmyla Luzan added two prestigious awards to her collection.

Lyudmila won the gold medal in the 200-meter single canoe event, defending her championship title. The Ukrainian became only the second person in history and the first European to achieve this feat.

She also won a silver medal in the 500-meter double canoe event, partnering with Anastasia Rybachok.

The athlete’s outstanding achievements and records

The 29-year-old native of Ivano-Frankivsk is one of the most successful athletes in the history of Ukrainian sports. She has three Olympic medals to her credit (silver and bronze at Tokyo 2020, as well as silver at Paris 2024).

Luzan’s total number of medals at world championships has reached 13 (9 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze). In addition, the rower has 16 European Championship awards to her credit.

This is also the fourth time in her career that Luzan has been named the National Olympic Committee’s Athlete of the Month. She was previously honored in June 2023 and 2026, as well as in August 2025.

This was reported with reference to the press service of the NOC of Ukraine.

As a reminder, Lyudmyla Luzan won gold at the World Championships.

American tennis players Jessica Pegula and Frances Tiafoe stated on the eve of the U.S. Open in New York that tennis is moving in the right direction regarding diversity, although its accessibility to young people continues to be limited by the cost of lessons.
