Lviv soccer clubs got into a massive brawl during a youth derby
The match between the youth teams of Lviv clubs "Rukh" and "Karpaty" ended in a mass brawl on the field and a 5-2 victory for the "green-and-whites." Despite management plans to merge the two club structures, the U-19 match remained fiercely contested and was marred by violations of sportsmanship.
Sport24 reports on the course of the conflict and the match results.
The conflict was provoked by “Karpaty” player Andriy Cheberinchak, who, while in the technical area, struck an opponent in the face out of dissatisfaction with the actions of “Rukh” players near the sideline. The incident caused coaches and substitute players from both teams to rush onto the field, and the referees were only able to calm things down after sending off the instigator. The brawl occurred with the score at 2-4 in favor of Karpaty, who later managed to score another goal and secure their lead.
The situation regarding the merger of the clubs remains uncertain, although as recently as December 31, 2024, the owners announced their intention to create a single, powerful team to compete for the top spots in the league. The plan was for Karpaty to remain in the Premier League, while Rukh would focus on the academy, but for now, both teams continue to compete separately. Amid rumors of a possible change in Rukh’s professional status, the emotional tension in head-to-head matches is only growing. Attempts to consolidate efforts have not yet stopped the fierce competition between Lviv’s soccer schools.
