Macron congratulated the French national team on advancing to the semifinals of the 2026 World Cup
French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated the national soccer team on its 2-0 victory over Morocco in the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup.
Macron praised the French team’s performance and also commended the Moroccan national team, recalling their matchup at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“Proud of our ‘Les Bleus.’ Bravo to Morocco—an incredible opponent tonight, just as they were four years ago. France is advancing to the semifinals—with style and in the spirit of brotherhood!” wrote the French president.
Goals by Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé in the second half secured the victory for the French national team.
Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappé missed a penalty early in the match, but that didn’t prevent Didier Deschamps’ team from securing a confident victory.
In the semifinals of the 2026 World Cup, the French national team will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between Belgium and Spain.
It’s worth noting that at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, France also defeated Morocco 2–0; at that time, the teams met in the tournament’s semifinals.
