Marta Kostyuk won her first WTA 1000 tournament, defeating the Russian player

Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk won the prestigious Women’s Tennis Association (WTA 1000) clay-court tournament, the Mutua Madrid Open, which featured a prize pool of over €8.235 million. Kostyuk, Ukraine’s No. 2 player (ranked No. 23 in the WTA), defeated Russia’s Mirra Andreeva (No. 8) in the final in one and a half hours with a score of 6-3, 7-5.

This was reported by the “Great Tennis of Ukraine” portal.


This was Marta’s seventh appearance in the main draw of the Madrid tournament. Last season, the Kyiv native reached the quarterfinals here.

It should be noted that by winning the title, Kostyuk has secured her return to the top 20 of the WTA world rankings and will set a new personal best at No. 15.

The winner of the Madrid final will receive over €1 million in prize money and 1,000 ranking points.

As a reminder, Madrid hosted the prestigious WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open clay-court tournament with a prize fund of over €8.2 million. Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk reached the semifinals of this competition for the first time in her career.
