Messi close to deal to acquire Spanish club Eldense
Argentine footballer Lionel Messi is close to concluding a deal to acquire Spanish second-division club CD Eldense. Channel NewsAsia reports, citing several Spanish media reports.
Deal requires approval
According to media reports, Messi has agreed in principle to acquire all shares held by the club’s majority owner, Colombian investment group TH Soluciones Group S.A.S. An announcement of the deal is expected in the coming days.
TH Soluciones Group S.A.S. took control of Eldense in October 2025 and is reportedly set to transfer its entire stake to Messi. At the same time, the deal must still be approved by Spain’s Higher Sports Council. Reuters has sought comment from TH Soluciones Group S.A.S. and CD Eldense.

Club from Alicante province
CD Eldense is based in the city of Elda in the eastern Spanish province of Alicante, which has a population of about 55,000. The club spent most of its history in Spain’s lower divisions, but after new investment, it played in the second division in three of the last four seasons.
On Sunday, Eldense dismissed head coach Claudio Barragán. After four opening league matches, the team had two points and stood third from bottom in the table.
Messi’s other football assets
Messi also acquired Spanish fifth-division club UE Cornellà on April 16. After his playing contract with Inter Miami ends, he is also expected to receive a stake in the American Major League Soccer club.
