Myanmar wins first Asian Games teqball gold — Channel NewsAsia
Myanmar representative Wai Khin Hnin won gold in women’s teqball singles at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. In the final, she defeated Indonesia’s Sumaya 2:1, Channel NewsAsia reports.
Teqball was included in the Asian Games programme for the first time, and Wai Khin Hnin became the tournament’s first gold medallist in the sport.
Victory after the first set
The Myanmar athlete lost the first set 10:12 but won the next two, 12:8 and 12:9. Former Barcelona and Spain national team footballer Carles Puyol watched the final.

Teqball was invented 14 years ago in a garage in Hungary. In this sport, players use their feet to send a ball over a curved table; it also contains elements of the Southeast Asian sport sepak takraw. Teqball was already featured at the 2023 European Games.
Tournament participants
The Philippines men’s team included three 14-year-old athletes, among them Prince Agustin. He lost the bronze-medal match in singles. Japan was represented by 40-year-old Takahiro Nodomi, who also works as a comedian.
Indonesian Husni Uba had previously represented his country four times in sepak takraw at the Asian Games. According to the source, the 44-year-old athlete returned to the Asian Games as a teqball competitor.
