South Korea wins four golds at Asian Games — Korea Herald
South Korea's national team won four gold medals and 14 medals in total on the first day of competition after the opening ceremony of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan. Korea Herald reports on the team's results.
Modern pentathlon
South Korea's first gold was won by Song Seung-min, who triumphed in the individual women's modern pentathlon event. She scored 1,492 points in fencing, swimming, the obstacle course and laser-run, which combines running and shooting. The athlete became the first South Korean woman to win an individual Asian Games title in women's modern pentathlon.
China's Zhang Min-yu finished second with 1,460 points, while Wu Xiaoxiao was third with 1,447 points. China won the women's team event, while South Korea's team of Song Seung-min, Kim Eun-ju and Shin Su-min took silver.
South Korea's men's modern pentathlon team — Jun Woong-tae, Lee Jong-hyun and Seo Chang-wan — won gold in the team event with 4,779 points. In the individual event, Jun Woong-tae won silver and Lee Jong-hyun took bronze, while China's Li Liuchang won.

Teqball and basketball
Lee Jun-seok brought the country its third gold, becoming the first Asian Games champion in men's singles teqball. In the final, he defeated Iraq's Ali Jalil Mezher Alelawi 2:0 — 12:11 and 12:5. Teqball, which combines elements of football, table tennis, freestyle and sepak takraw, made its Asian Games debut in Nagoya.
The fourth gold medal was won by the men's basketball team, which defeated Japan 67:57 in the final. Forward Lee Hyun-jun scored 27 points and made 18 rebounds. It was South Korea's first Asian Games gold in men's basketball in 12 years.
South Korean cyclist Shin Chi-eun also won bronze in the individual time trial. The country's men's and women's teams each won bronze in soft tennis, while shooter Ban Hyo-jin claimed bronze in the 10-metre air rifle event. In Tokyo, swimmers Kim Young-beom and Hwang Sun-woo won silver and bronze in the 100-metre freestyle, while Lee Ju-ho took bronze in the 100-metre backstroke.
