Nigeria loses to France 56:111 and finishes World Cup without a win
Nigeria’s women’s basketball national team, D’Tigress, lost to France 56:111 in the third group-stage game of the 2026 FIBA World Cup and finished the tournament without a win. Nigeria suffered three defeats in three Group B matches, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
France’s advantage
The French team dominated from the start and went into halftime leading 65:26. The Nigerians scored 13 points in each of the first three quarters, while France recorded 31 points in the first, 34 in the second and 30 in the third 10-minute period.
In the final quarter, D’Tigress scored 17 points compared with 16 for their opponents, but this did not change the outcome of the game. According to match information, France made 22 three-point shots and set a women’s World Cup record for the number of three-pointers in a single game since 1994.

Efosa-Aguebo was D’Tigress’ top scorer with 15 points, making four of seven field-goal attempts. She spent 20 minutes and 22 seconds on the court after coming off the bench. Balogun added 11 points, while Kalu and Macaulay scored six each.
Igbokwe led the Nigerian team in rebounds with nine. Okonkwo made eight rebounds and provided three assists, the most among D’Tigress players. Earlier, Nigeria lost to South Korea 81:99 and Hungary 67:71.
Group-stage outcome
The defeat to France was D’Tigress’ heaviest at this tournament. Three consecutive defeats were the team’s worst result in its entire history of appearances at the women’s World Cup.
