Nigerian Ajayi finishes fourth in 100m race in Budapest
Nigerian sprinter Kanyinsola Ajayi finished fourth in the 100-metre final at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary. He covered the distance in 9.93 seconds and was the fastest among the African participants in the race.
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, Ajayi recorded the same time as American Ronnie Baker, who won the bronze medal following a photo finish. The Nigerian will receive $25,000 in prize money for fourth place.
Final results
American Kenny Bednarek won the race with a time of 9.85 seconds. Jamaican sprinter Oblique Seville finished second in 9.90 seconds. American Christian Coleman took fifth place with a time of 9.94 seconds, while South Africa's Gift Leotlela was sixth after running 9.98 seconds.
Olympic 200-metre champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana finished seventh with a time of 10.07 seconds, while South African Akani Simbine was eighth with 10.09 seconds.

Performances of Nigerian athletes
The 21-year-old Ajayi is Nigeria's 100-metre record holder with a time of 9.84 seconds. According to World Athletics, he ranks fourth in the world in this event. Earlier this season, the athlete won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he ran the 100 metres in 9.90 seconds in the final.
Another Nigerian representative, Ezekiel Nathaniel, advanced to the final of the 400-metre hurdles. In the semifinals, he finished second in 47.75 seconds, losing to Norwegian Karsten Warholm, who won the race in 47.68 seconds.
The competition at the Budapest National Athletics Centre runs from September 11 to 13. The tournament features 381 athletes from 65 federations competing in 28 events. The championship's total prize fund is $10 million, while winners of individual events receive $150,000 each.
