The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine has named the top female athletes and coaches for May 2026.
They are rhythmic gymnast Taisiia Onofriichuk and young wrestler Maria Poltorak, who won medals at the European Championships.
Taisiia Onofriichuk was named the best athlete of the month. She won a bronze medal in the individual all-around at the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, which took place in Varna, Bulgaria.
This is the second such recognition for the athlete—she previously received an award from the NOC for her achievements at the continental championship.
In this category, Irina Deryugina, Onofrychuk’s personal coach and president of the Ukrainian Gymnastics Federation, was also honored.
In the “Best Young Female Athlete of May” category, the winner was Maria Poltorak, who took silver at the European Women’s Cadet Wrestling Championships (under 17) in the 57 kg weight class.
The award was presented to Oleksandr Podolskyi, Maria Poltorak’s personal coach.
The NOC of Ukraine noted that the decision was made in light of the outstanding results achieved by Ukrainian athletes at international competitions in May 2026.
Earlier, the NOC of Ukraine began actively monitoring the activities of Russian and Belarusian athletes participating in the XXV Winter Olympic Games in Italy.
As a reminder, Hasek called on Ukraine to demand billions in compensation for allowing Russians to participate in the Olympics.
Francesca Lollobrigida set the first record at the 2026 Olympics.
