Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee become world badminton champions
South Korean badminton players Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee became world champions in women’s doubles. In the final of the Badminton World Federation World Championships in New Delhi, they defeated China’s Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning 21:15, 21:15.
First title in more than 30 years
As The Korea Herald reports, this is South Korea’s first victory in women’s doubles at the World Championships in more than three decades. Baek and Lee became only the second South Korean duo to win the world title in this discipline. Gil Young-ah and Jang Hye-ock previously won it in 1995.
How the final match unfolded
In the first game, Baek and Lee won the first five points and did not trail their opponents afterward. In the second game, with the score at 4:4, the Koreans moved ahead to 10:5.

The Chinese pair narrowed the gap to 12:13, but Baek and Lee responded with a run of five consecutive points. The final at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Arena in New Delhi lasted 51 minutes.
In men’s doubles, South Korean representatives Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho failed to defend their title. In the semifinals, they lost to Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik 17:21, 18:21.
