Modern pentathlete Jeong Woong-tae wins Asian Games silver in Japan — Korea Herald
South Korean modern pentathlete Jeong Woong-tae finished second in the individual modern pentathlon event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in the Japanese city of Anjo. He scored 1,595 points and failed to win his third consecutive individual gold medal at the Games. At the same time, the South Korean national team retained its title in the team competition, Korea Herald reports.

Lee Jong-hyun and Seo Chang-wan competed alongside Jeong, finishing third and fifth respectively. The South Korean team scored 4,779 points, ahead of China with 4,768 points and Kazakhstan with 4,647 points.
In the team standings, the results of each country’s three best athletes in the individual competition are added together. For South Korea, this is its second consecutive Asian Games gold in team modern pentathlon. At the previous Games, Jeong won both the individual and team events.

Rise from ninth position
The 31-year-old athlete competed in fencing, swimming, obstacle course racing and the laser run, which combines running and shooting. Before the final laser run, he started from ninth position but finished second.
Jeong said that team gold means more to him than an individual victory. According to him, he considered these Asian Games to be the last of his career, but decided to continue competing and work toward the next Olympics in Los Angeles.
