Valentin Zhukov, former head of Russian volleyball, has died

The death of Valentin Zhukov, former president of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (ARVF), has been reported. He was 89 years old.

According to propaganda sources, Zhukov was listed on the “Myrotvorets” website database due to his public support for the war against Ukraine.

Valentin Zhukov: What Is Known

The cause of Zhukov’s death is currently unknown.

He headed the VFF from 1991 to 2004. Since 2006, he served as the VFF’s honorary president.

Zhukov also worked with the USSR’s youth and junior volleyball teams.

Zhukov’s support for the war against Ukraine

In 2022, Zhukov participated in a propaganda event—a volleyball tournament in Obninsk (Kaluga Oblast, Russian Federation).

In particular, the so-called “DPR National Team,” led by “DPR Volleyball Federation President” Oleg Mushenko, participated in the tournament.

During the event, Zhukov took part in a campaign supporting Russian aggression against Ukraine. In particular, he was photographed alongside DNR symbols and the letter “Z.”

Due to his support for the war, Zhukov was also added to the database of the “Myrotvorets” website.

The Ukrainian water polo team was awarded a technical defeat for refusing to play against the Russians.

World Aquatics became the first organization to allow athletes from the aggressor country to participate in international tournaments under neutral status in team sports, contrary to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.

The International Olympic Committee declined to comment on statements by Russian Sports Minister and Russian Olympic Committee President Mikhail Degtyarev, who publicly supports the war against Ukraine.

Additionally, a Russian cycling champion was disqualified for doping.
