Portugal without Ronaldo beat Denmark 4-2 in Nations League — Dawn

Portugal’s national team, without Cristiano Ronaldo, beat Denmark 4-2 in a Nations League match in Copenhagen. It was the Portuguese side’s first game after Ronaldo left the team, casting doubt on his future with the national side.

As Dawn reports, Portugal won all three opening matches and lead Group A4 with nine points. The team are six points ahead of their nearest pursuers.

Portugal score four goals in Copenhagen

João Cancelo and Gonçalo Ramos twice put the visitors ahead in the first half. Denmark equalised on each occasion, with Mikkel Damsgaard and Rasmus Højlund scoring for the hosts.

In the 67th minute, Vitinha scored Portugal’s third goal, while João Félix set the final score late in the match. Jorge Jesus’s team secured the victory after several difficult days.

Klopp’s first win

In another Group A2 match, Germany beat Serbia 2-0 to claim their first victory under new coach Jürgen Klopp. Klopp completely changed the starting lineup compared with the previous match against Greece, while goalkeeper Jonas Urbig and winger Derry Scherhant made their debuts for the national team.

Tom Bischof opened the scoring in the 39th minute after a pass from Florian Wirtz and scored his first national-team goal in his second match. After the break, Wirtz scored himself. “We played wonderfully without the ball and showed beautiful football with it. I am very happy. This performance must now become our benchmark,” Klopp said.

Netherlands come back in Greece

The Netherlands national team drew 2-2 away to Greece after coming back from 0-2 down. Fotis Ioannidis and Georgios Masouras scored for Greece in the first half, Virgil van Dijk reduced the deficit shortly before the hour mark, and Tijjani Reijnders equalised one minute before the end of regular time.

In another match, Wales beat Norway, who finished with 10 men, 2-1. In League B, Ireland’s match against Austria in Dublin was briefly interrupted by tennis balls thrown onto the pitch in protest over the Irish side’s previous game against Israel. The match ended 2-2 despite two goals from Troy Parrott.
